• Vented gas fireplaces have larger flames that more closely resemble a wood fire. However, you will need an open chimney flue to install these products so that combustion products can vent outside. You’ll also lose a bit of heat in the venting process.
• Vent-free propane gas fireplaces do not require an open chimney flue. This product is great for space heating because no warmth escapes through a vent. While the flames may be less vibrant on vent-free appliances, many come with a thermostat for consistent warmth. There are also often restrictions on where you can install a vent-free gas fireplace.
